Monday better be good for the Virtual Co ...

if Nintendo wants to show they still really care about the hardcore audience. I'm talking Earthbound and Super Mario RPG released on the same day. Besides the announcement of a new Zelda, SMG2, and Pikmin; Nintendo need to back up their talk with something physical, what better than to release two games that have consistently been on both best games lists and most wanted lists. I'm not holding my breath though... Rather than make two different threads, I figure I'll just through this in also. Here is the second part of my thread:It seems as if the perfect storm is rising for third party developers on the Wii. At just the right time when the 3rd party has a decent enough line-up to have the hardcore go out and buy their games, Nintendo decides not to announce anything for us. This gives games like Star Wars TFU, The Conduit, Madworld, Dead Rising and Call of Duty 5 a chance to sell. The Wii also has some big sellers in Lego Batman, Star Wars Clone Wars, Sonic Unleashed and Guitar Hero 4. I'm willing to bet that all the games listed sell a million copies and over. This should finally prove that third party titles sell on the Wii. Good things come to people who wait, besides it's not like Nintendo is getting some of my money this holiday. I'm planning on purchasing Warioland: Shake It! and WiiSpeak, aswell as picking up a few games I missed like Super Paper Mario and Zelda TP (bought the gamecube version, looking to get a taste of what Zelda Wii might be like). Monday better be good for the Virtual Co ...
Le Bump. So do you guys think this is Nintendo's strategy for the next year? To let the third parties soak up some sells, so they'll be more encouraged to start Wii projects?Monday better be good for the Virtual Co ...
If Nintendo continues with the pattern we've been seeing, they'll release one VC game on Monday. It will probably be a Neo Geo title too since they are trying to get them all out before the SNK Collection comes out.Nintendo is not intentionally holding back games so third parties can sell games. That's crazy talk. There's two possibilities: they have switched their focus 80-90% to casual games and won't be releasing many hardcore titles anymore.... or the hardcore titles they have in the works aren't ready to be shown yet.
Rick I think you are absolutely right, that was my thought aswell, they want the core gamers to buy third party stuff ( they look great ) and at the same time sell quality casual games, they have just secured this gen's ''console war'' tbh... I think we will see some really cool stuff in 2009 with the new 1:1 addon.
While i do agree that they will sell more, i highley doubt some of those will sell a millionI just dont see Sonic selling that much just because of his past (love him to death though)And yeah wii is getting dead rising, the 360 has already had it for like two years now and people like me who own more than just the wii probably already had it.I think mad world may do extremely well but until we see actual gameplay thats a different story. Trailers can only get you so far
OK.........give it up already!
A: Don't get your hopes up. Earthbound won't be happening for a while unfortunately. Same with Super Mario RPG.
B. I'm pretty sure Zelda and SMG2 were NOT announced. ''The Zelda and Mario teams are hard at work'' does no, in any way, confirm anything yet.

[/QUOTE]I know A. is very unlikely, but the reason I chose those specific games was that Earthbound has a rating by the ESRB and Super Mario RPG is out in Japan and has been rated for Australia. Do I really expect these games in Monday, no way in hell. It's just a lot funner to speculate about what Nintendo is doing in the future rather talk about the thing this board is obsessed about, Nintendo abandoning the hardcore. At E3 2008, Nintendo confirmed (very vaguely) that the Mario and Zelda teams had reassembled, but offered no further details. But when we sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto this week, he elaborated on situation, absolutely confirmed that a new Wii Zelda is underway, and suggested that it will see some fundamental changes. ''The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away,'' Miyamoto said. ''And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we're having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version.'' At GDC 2007, Eiji Aonuma gave a presentation on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At that time, he showed a brief snippet of an experimentation the Zelda team conducted -- it was Twilight Princess running in the first-person view. We asked Miyamoto if such a fundamental change could await players of Wii's next Zelda adventure. ''I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas,'' he said. ''And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas.''

Give me Majoras Mask and Im happy
You do know Miyamoto was saying that in a joking/sarcastic manner. The sarcasm also could have been easily mistranslated from Japanese to English. There's also the possibility that IGN were lying, considering they're IGN.
