Is the DK franchise dying/dead?

I'll try to keep this short. DKC 1, 2, and 3, along with DK 64, were fantastic games that made me proud to be a Nintendo owner. you could argue that the DK franchise became the #3 Nintendo franchise, only behind Mario and Zelda. It has been 9 years since DK 64 came out, and there has not even been an announcement of a new DK platformer. So what happened? Did Nintendo decide to give up on DK once Rare left? Is the Kong family doomed to play second fiddle in Smash Bros. and Mario Kart forever? Why has Nintendo seemingly abandoned this franchise? Is the DK franchise dying/dead?
He is not thta big of a Nintendo character and I agree with you the DKC's were awesome with DK 64!!Is the DK franchise dying/dead?
I dont know, but i would buy a DK 3- D platformer for Wii for sure. They should just make one themselves.
DK is dead to me. Never liked his games, but I like the characters (or at least the ones in MKWii). I do like the Mario vs. DK series, though.
DKC was awesome. But unfortunately, I think that DK is dead (at least for now).
As far as my knowledge goes, Donkey Kong was owned by Rareware as well, which is now under control of the evil coporation Microsoft. I have a feeling that we won't be seeing much more of the beloved Donkey and his gang of silly simians. However, I could be wrong or they could get it all done by themselves, those efficient Japanese creators should be fine on their own with their own console hardware.
well now that microsoft owns rare theres probaly some document that makes it so nintendo cant make any more donkey kong platformer
ya Donkey Kong 64 was awesome like Banjo Kazooie. I remember on the gamecube box had donkey kong racing, but it never camed out haha. So i am not sure wat's going on with Donkey Kong platforming but those games would be epic, along with releases of Mario and Zelda, and Kid Icarus, and Pikmin 3. So hopefully next year we get more info.
why have you guys complained that there hasn't been a good DK platformer in 9 years since DK 64, if you look at Jungle Beat for the GCN that is pretty decent platformer also and havent you noticed the king of swing titles for the DS and GBA. And also give Donkey Konga a chance its not really part of the series but if you like donkey kong and rhythm games like guitar hero then get yourself a pair of bongos and try it.
id buy a donkey kong game for the ds
Jungle beat isn't good imo, there needs to be a better game like DK 64.
Dk has died ever since RARE left Nintendo (Nice one Nintendo) but the Same Happend to Starfox
i want a DK64 type game for the wii, not jungle beat stuff.
I can almost assure you there isn't going to be one, Rareware is owned by Microsoft now, I double checked and it's true. There is definately something signed on the contract stating that no one can use anything licensed under Rareware, so we can't even get Goldeneye 64 on the Virtual Console, nor can we have DK64 or Banjo Kazooie/Tooie.

Nintendo is really good about controlling their property. On topic,I think Donkey Kong is dead. Especially if they push IP's like Kid Icarus alongside established franchises like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, Starfox, F-Zero.... Nintendo only has so many devs.Donkey Kong just doesn't seem to be a priority.
we haven't seen anything for a while....

Donkey Kong is owned by Nintendo. In other words Nintendo can make a Donkey Kong platformer whenever they please. Also, Donkey Kong Country 1,2, and 3 all developed by Rare are on the Virtual Console now. Donkey Kong 64 should be heading to the VC too,
Indeed, it doesn't have to be Donkey Kong 64 ''sequel,'' it can be just a fun 3D Dk platformer, that's wat i want.

Nintendo can make new DK games anytime they want, just don't expect them to be made by Rare.
